On 24th August, 1915, 2nd Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry of 5 Brigade, 2nd Division moved into the front line trenches at Givenchy in northern France. Early in the morning of 25th August, the enemy blew a small mine which buried alive 3 men from 2nd Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. These men were successfully rescued but there were other casualties in the battalion, including Thomas Horwood, who was killed in action on the same day. |
